Course Description

This course introduces the concepts, principles, and technical aspects required to teach a safe and effective Barre class. The course aims to equip the student with the skills required to design and instruct their own style of barre class, implement necessary modifications and meet client expectations. It will inspire the student to create exciting and challenging Barre programs that represent the true essence of who they are.

Course Goals

Students who complete this course successfully will be able to: 

  • Demonstrate correct alignment and technical application of basic Barre exercises.
  • Design a 30 - 45 minute Barre class suitable for a general class.
  • Understand the targeted muscle groups in each exercise.
  • Implement basic modifications to exercises.
  • Effectively cue each exercise so they are executed safely.
  • Recognize the elements that make a great Barre Instructor.


Required Texts, Materials, or Equipment

  • The Dance Anatomy book and Pilates Anatomy book
  • A Flexi-band, Pilates Ball (optional)
  • A printed copy of The Barre Instructors Manual


Prerequisites

Tis course is available and open to anybody who has an interest in understanding Barre Instruction and the technique behind the method.

In order to receive accreditation for this course, students must have completed at least one of the following:

  • A minimum Cert 3 in Dance, Fitness, Pilates or Yoga
  • Demonstrate extensive dance, barre and/or Pilates training.

Students must complete the following to receive certification as a Barre Instructor with Barre Instructors Australia P/L

  • The student must complete a minimum of 10 barre classes. These classes must be certified by the instructor. Please fill in the Barre Training 10 hour log book before the commencement of your class via email.
  • Must have a valid First Aid Certification and CPR certificate.
  • Fill out a confidential student waiver form.


Assessments

Face to face Course: Modules that are required to be done prior to the commencement of your course must be completed via the online platform. Practical assessments will be completed during the face to face hours.

Online Course: All Assessments and tasks are required to be submitted either via the online platform or emailed to [email protected] were indicated.

Course Grading 

All students will receive as much support to successfully achieve the assessment tasks for this course. If the student cannot demonstrate their ability to teach specific barre exercises effectively, then they may be advised to undertake further training at their expense.

REQUESTS FOR EXTENSIONS

In the case that a student can no longer fulfil the practical sessions due to extenuating circumstances, they may be able to complete their training at a later date. This will incur a fee to cover the costs.

RE-GRADING POLICY

  • If the student is unable to fulfil the practical assessments of this course within the dates of course delivery they may do so at another time agreeable to the instructor with an added extension fee cost.

REQUESTS FOR INSTRUCTOR FEEDBACK 

Instructor feedback will be given during course delivery. The instructor is not obligated to give feedback beyond the course delivery dates
